SEWING
overview
Sewing secures the leaves of a book to its spine structures and function. There are many kinds of sewing and the technique selected for use must be appropriate to the time period of the book being restored. The new sewing should not add increased bulk, and must permit the restored volume to open and lie flat. The type and thickness of thread should be in correct relation to the type and weight of the paper used in the book.
